Shakira stops traffic to dance to Skrillex ‘Drop It Hard’ dubstep

Geoff Herbert, syracuse.com By Geoff Herbert, syracuse.com

“I’m crazy about Skrillex!” Shakira shouts. So are a lot of people.

In a recent video posted on her YouTube channel, the Colombian singer stopped traffic in Barcelona, Spain, to get out of her car and dance to Skrillex’s “Drop It Hard.” She cranks it up at an especially epic wobble wobble drum and bass break in the dubstep song.

Skrillex took home three Grammys this year for his breakthrough in the emerging electronica genre and progressive house music, including Best Dance Recording. Real name Sonny Moore, the former From First to Last singer has built a huge following with his breakneck beats and all-star collaborations (KoRn, The Doors, Lady Gaga, Black Eyed Peas) and performed in Syracuse twice last year.

Though the video clip is only 15 seconds long, it’s already racked up more than 620,000 views in a week. It’s also impressive to see Shakira nearly causing a traffic jam with her awesome dance moves — hey, her hips don’t lie.

The 35-year-old multilingual singer, whose hits have ranged from “Whenever, Wherever” to “La Tortura,” just released her “Live in Paris” album in December and has more studio material on the way. Digital Spy reports she’s working with LMFAO and Akon on new songs — plus she’s probably hoping Skrillex will at least do a remix for the new album.

In the Documentary “Nothing But The Beat”, Guetta says “I wanted to create a bridge between Europe and America,” and he did just that. He saw house music as a way to bring urban and white culture together under one roof. Now signed to EMI Virgin Records, Guetta has proven that house music is here to stay and profitable.
